Mediation may be a good option for people going through a divorce

There are many different emotions that people experience as they go through a divorce in Florida. There can be anger, sadness, anxiety and many other emotions. Despite these emotions, the couple still needs to make very important decisions as they separate the life they shared during the marriage into two separate lives. This means they must separate bank accounts, retirement accounts, homes and other possessions. It also means that they must begin sharing their time with their children as well.

None of these are easy decisions but they are ones that need to be made in a divorce. The decisions could be made by the couple by reaching agreements on the various issues or the decisions could be made by a judge after a trial if the couple is unable to reach agreements on their own. As stated above, these are emotional times and the couple may need some assistance making these decisions. If they cannot agree, they do have another option instead of simply going to a trial. Couples may want to try mediation and use the services of a third-party neutral to help them reach agreements.

Benefits of mediation

There are many benefits of choosing mediation instead of going to trial. Mediation is usually much less expensive than going to trial and is also less time consuming. It reduces the conflict between the parents, which is beneficial for the children’s mental health. It allows the couple to remain in control over the decisions being made instead of being at the mercy of a judge’s decision. Mediation also allows the parties to customize their divorce decree to address the unique needs of the parties. Mediation is also a private process and couples do not need to present their lives in open court.

There are many couples in Florida who go through divorce every year. While it can be a very stressful and emotional time, there are ways that the couple can reduce their stress and also build a better foundation for their life after the divorce. Choosing to attend mediation instead of going to trial can accomplish this goal. Experienced attorneys understand the divorce process and may be able to help guide one through it.
